Located on one of the busiest pedestrian and transport junctions in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre, this project involved converting a 100 bed, five storey hotel into a student residence with 133No en-suite bedrooms and associated kitchenette facilities.

The original building was formed in 2000, and as such the necessary works included ventilation alterations and upgrades throughout, the conversion of the former bar area to a convenience store, the installation of an extended mezzanine floor to facilitate additional rooms, new windows on two elevations, and alterations to the existing entrances.

Due to the site’s close proximity to the main bus station and high pedestrian footfall, special considerations were paid to the site perimeter, timing and management of site deliveries and programming of works in order to minimise disruption to surrounding businesses and avoid traffic congestion.

Regular liaison between our project team, design team members, client representatives and our in-house Health & Safety Manager ensured that all works are carried out in the most appropriate manner for this unique location.
