We were selected to undertake refurbishment works to a significant proportion of the interior of Scotland’s original independent cinema. Previously quite gloomy and worn, we worked throughout the interior of the building to revamp the space with an art deco look.
The ground level foyer and mezzanine level now have rare in situ terrazzo floors which were laid and polished around carpet inlays. We installed feature lighting in the form of old-fashioned bulbs – in keeping with the overall period design of the building and created a ‘snug bar’ in the mezzanine level with a terrazzo bar and wooden furniture. Further works also included re-carpeting and installing LED nosing in screen 2.
Our Manufacturing team created 4 large wooden film poster display cases for the foyer and installed wooden panelling throughout the interior. This wooden panelling on the first floor bar allows the extra capacity, under-stair bar to be hidden when closed. The upper bar is on castors, making it portable and allowing for maximum flexibility within the open plan space. We also manufactured the long bar to parallel the design of the other furniture and panelling in this area.
Disabled access to the mezzanine level and first and second floors had previously been an issue for the venue and we undertook extensive works to rectify this. A new disabled passenger lift was installed in the foyer, creating wheelchair access to both the mezzanine and first floor of the building. A new wheelchair stair lift was also installed to provide disabled access to the second floor from the first floor meaning the venue now provides wheelchair access to the full building. We also fit-out a disabled bathroom on the second floor.
